synopsis

What happens after happily ever after is the hard part…

Lauren Brooks wants to do three things: Escape the small town she grew
up in, get accepted to her dream school in Chicago, and graduate
without drowning in debt. Now she’s working her ass off to do just
that.

With a full course load and a waitressing job at one of the hottest
night clubs in Chicago, she does not have time for distractions;namely
ones who only want to get into her pants. She’s been burned before.
Only a fool goes for a second round.. With just two semesters left
until graduation, everything’s on track.

Until she meets Cal. Enter distraction.

At six-foot-two, with ebony hair, deep grey eyes, and a smile that
could only hide an agenda, she knows he’s trouble. And for the first
time in her life, a little trouble might be just what she needs.

No what she wants.

It isn’t like she’d ever marry the guy.

Until she does.

What she thinks will be her happily ever after, is only the beginning.
Cal has a secret. One that makes loving him come with a price, and
being his wife cost more than she bargained for.

5 mysterious Stars!!!

“What’s in the dark, will always come to light,”

BRAVO! BRAVO! Portia Moore, you have a lifelong fan in me, after finishing this story. It was just what I needed!! In a reading funk (like I was)?!? Well, this story not only brought me out, but made me fall in love. And not in love with a character…I fell in love with the book!! This is not the kind of story that you fall in love with a character and all you want is to see them get their HEA. Not that I wasn’t looking for a HEA, but it was different this time. Yes, I ramble when I am excited about a book 😉

“I swear that our relationship is so back and forth that it’s like we’re playing tennis, except he makes all the rules. When it’s bad, it’s really bad, but when it’s good, it’s so good. I hate it and love it at the same time. But that’s how Cal is.”  ~Lauren

If I Break is a mystery and a romance.  It centers around and is told from Lauren’s POV, who unexpectedly falls for the mysterious Cal. I could definitely see the attraction. Cal is sexy and has just enough mystery to him to attract Lauren, even though there was a tiny part of her mind telling her to be careful. And I must also mention, he rocks her world in the very hot sex scenes. There is no lack of chemistry between the two. The author did a beautiful job of relaying Lauren’s thoughts and emotions, so that I could feel the pull and the attraction she had to Cal.

“He’s a brick wall, and I’m tired of trying to break through.”  ~Lauren

But, Cal has a secret! A secret that drove me crazy! I had so many scenarios running through my mind, but never the one that happened. I was wowed.  The whole story flips back and forth between past and present, and that made the mystery around Cal even better.

“I have a lot of confusion about his love for me, but what I have never been confused about is my love for him. I love Cal. That’s it.”  ~Lauren

I am so afraid to say much more because nothing in this story should be ruined. But I will tell you all that in the end, I wanted more!!! It ended at a good point but I still sat there talking to myself and wondering…where do they go now? There is so much more story to be told about Cal and Lauren, and I want it now.

“I wonder why people take the chance of falling in love. If I could go back through time, would I change the things that I’ve done?”  ~Lauren

I can tell you that this story truly did impress me. I loved that I couldn’t figure out the mystery behind Cal and I was totally sucked in throughout the whole story. This one comes highly, highly recommended by this Book Bitch 🙂
