~~ 4 Solid Stars ~~

There is a reason that I will always read a book by Jessica Sorensen, especially if it is a YA book. She just knows how to create a story and characters that draw you in and make you feel a part of their lives. This book was no different. I will say that I wasn’t aware that this book was a Young Adult book and that the characters are high school aged, but I have to say it didn’t bother me at all. It was a pleasant surprise. Sometimes it is nice to read a clean story without all of the sex and drama to go with the New Adult or Adult genres.

Unraveling You is book 1 in a new spinoff series that Jessica is creating. So be forewarned this book does end with a Cliffhanger, but it isn’t too stress inducing. We learn something at the end of the book, regarding Ayden and his past, that makes you just want more of the story. I am definitely interested to see where she takes this story. This was a fairly quick read…it is on the shorter side. It’s not a novella, but it’s not as long as some other novels out there. Another reason this was a quick read for me was because the storyline sucked me in and didn’t let go until the end…and even then I’m still hanging on 😉 As always the characters were relatable and easy to connect with. The writing is smooth and flawlessly.

This book/series is a spinoff of the Secret of Ella and Micha series. The main characters in this story are the children of Ella and Micha (Lyric) and Ethan and Lila (Ayden). Lyric and Ayden are both 16 years old and still in high school. Ella, Micha, Ethan and Lila are next door neighbors and still best friends, so when Ethan and Lila adopt Ayden, they want Lyric to help him adjust. Lyric is such a strong and happy soul and I loved her character. I loved Ella and Micha’s story so much it was great to see how their child would turn out. Lyric is a great mix of both her parents. Ayden is a tortured and broken soul. We don’t find out exactly what happened to him in his past, but there are hints and some details revealed in this book. Unraveling You was truly just the beginning of Lyric and Ayden’s story. We got to watch them become friends and then eventually inseparable over the course of the book. We also got a little taste of their growing feelings for each other. I am looking forward to watching these two grow even more over the next 2 books.

I have to say the only negative I found with this book, was that it was fairly similar to her Secrets series and her Coincidence series, in that we have young characters that either one or both are broken in their own way and turn to each other for support, which then turns into more. Even with that said it didn’t take away from me enjoying this book and wanting to continue on with this series.

If you are a fan of Jessica’s work or her Secret and Coincidence Series, then you don’t want to miss this new series either.
