Perfect for fans of Alice Clayton and Emma Chase, Lauren Layne’s Oxford series heats up in this story of forbidden desire as a brooding jock hoping for a comeback falls for a woman who’s strictly off-limits.

A year ago, Jackson Burke was married to the love of his life and playing quarterback for the Texas Redhawks. Now he’s retired, courtesy of the car accident that ruined his career—and single, after a nasty scandal torpedoed his marriage. Just as he’s starting to get used to his new life as a health and fitness columnist forOxford magazine, his unpredictable ex shows up on his doorstep in Manhattan. Jackson should be thrilled. But he can’t stop thinking about the one person who’s always been there for him, the one girl he could never have: her younger sister.

Mollie Carrington can’t say no to Madison. After all, her older sister practically raised her. So when Madison begs for help in winning her ex-husband back, Mollie’s just glad she got over her own crush on Jackson ages ago—or so she thought. Because as Mollie reconnects with Jackson, she quickly forgets all her reasons to stay loyal to her sister. Tempted by Jackson’s mellow drawl and cowboy good looks, Mollie is sick and tired of coming in second place. But she can’t win if she doesn’t play the game.

~ 4 Stars ~

Well we have another enjoyable read by Lauren Layne!! I’ve come to know that when I choose to read a Lauren Layne book, I am going to get a sweet, sexy and fun read, and she hasn’t let me down yet!!!

I Wish You Were Mine is the second novel in her Oxford Series. This series is a spin off series from her Sex, Love and Stilettos Series. This one focuses around the men of Oxford Magazine. Each book can be read as a standalone. They each focus on a new couple. I would however recommend reading each of the books in order to fully appreciate the dynamic of this group of friends. Plus this is such a great series, you’ll want to read all the books.

Lauren has such an easy going writing style, that you can’t help but fully enjoy her books. Her story lines are engaging and not overloaded with extra information you don’t need, so her stories never drag on but they aren’t rushed either. She creates fun and loving characters, you can’t help but want to be a part of the circle of friends. I also love that she doesn’t over load the story with a lot of drama. Yes there is angst between her characters but when it comes to drama, it’s usually pretty small and over fairly quickly.

I have to be honest I was slightly nervous to read this book because I thought it was going to turn into one big love triangle and I am not a high fan of triangles. There are usually a lot of dumb decisions made and the characters tend to annoy me with their indecisiveness. I am happy to report this IS NOT a love triangle!! Yes the key characters in this story are Jackson, Mollie and Madison, but the true love story is between Jackson and Mollie. Jackson is an ex NFL player who was injured in an accident and forced to leave the game he loves. Which in turn makes his wife Madison leave him and file for divorce. Wanting to escape his old life, Jackson takes a new job in New York at Oxford Magazine as the Fitness reporter. This is where Mollie comes back into the picture. I say back into the picture, because Mollie is Madison’s (Jackson’s ex wife) sister. Who has also been in love with Jackson for years. Mollie has lived in NY for a couple of years but had also kept in touch with Jackson during that time. When an opportunity presents itself, she finds herself moving in with Jackson. Will she finally tell Jackson how she feels about him ? Will Jackson finally see Mollie as more than a kid sister in law?? You’ll need to read this book for those answers. But it’s worth the ride!!!

As always, I loved that we got to see the characters and couples from the Sex, Love and Stilettos series and all the guys from the Oxford series. It’s fun keeping up with what past couples are up too and I love the office banter this group of guys have between themselves. I look forward to Lincoln’s book next. I have a soft spot in my heart for him since I met his character. I have a feeling his story might be a sad one!!

So if you are looking for that friends to lovers romance, that will have you laughing, blushing and maybe even yelling a little, but that leaves you with a smile on your face, then this is the book to read!!!
