Is it possible to find your one true love…twice?
Blind date. When Allie and Ben are thrown together to help their friends out of a bind, they find the unexpected—and unwanted—spark of attraction difficult to ignore. Surrendering to it, they marry and live their happyish-ever-after—until Ben’s death reveals a betrayal that rocks Allie’s world.
The sidelines. Where Jake has hovered for the past fifteen years, business partners with his best friend, in love with his best friend’s wife. He’s shocked by Ben’s duplicity, overcome by the guilt of a deathbed promise. But he’s waited half a lifetime for a chance to love Allie, and it’s time to make his move.
Marriage. Allie might be ready to take the slow slide from friend to lover, but a lifetime is a leap she won’t agree to. She can’t deprive Jake of the family he’s never had, but longs for—the family she can no longer give him. How can she refuse him, though, when he sets out to prove the only family he needs—has ever wanted—is her?

His hands forged a path down her rib cage, her abdomen tightening with a quick intake of breath as his thumbs grazed the sides of lace-covered breasts. The mewl of satisfaction that escaped on her gasp had his erection throbbing. His breaths came in harsh gasps. He dropped to his knees. His work-roughened palms rasped against the satiny skin of her hips as he tugged open the snap of her jeans and lowered the zipper. “Jesus, Allie, did you paint these on? Help me out here.” With a laugh she wriggled until he had the curve-hugging denim down and off.

Lust threatened to consume him as he uncovered her silky limbs and left her standing in nothing but mind-altering scraps of pink silk. She palmed his head, her fingers tickling through his hair and across his scalp as his hands explored the firmness of her toned runner’s thighs, roamed her trim hips and kneaded the lush globes of her ass. Jesus, she was…perfect. Better than anything good and soft he could ever imagine. He dragged open– mouth kisses over the front of her panties and was rewarded when she drew in a ragged shudder. His heart raced in his chest.

More. He needed more and he needed it now. Needed to bury himself –. Ah, fuck! Abruptly, he tightened his arms around her thighs and dropped his forehead to her belly. “Shit.”

Her hands held him close. “Not the reaction I was looking for, Jake.”

4.5 emotional stars!!

I am so in love with this story!!! Allie, Jake, and even Ben stole my heart in this one. They had my emotions all over the place. I was smiling, laughing, swooning, hurting, and even pissed off a few times. This story is filled with love, regret, betrayal, heartache, trust….you name it, it’s packed in there. I love finding new authors that rock my reading world, and Ruthie has!!

I don’t need to go into much detail about the plot of this story, the synopsis sums it up well…almost too well. That’s my only complaint. I wish I hadn’t known as much as I did going in. Some readers like to know a lot about the story first, I just happen to be one that loves going in blind as much as I can. But, don’t fret, there are still a few surprises you will love 😉

“He’d given his heart a lifetime ago. It wasn’t up for grabs.”

I enjoyed every moment of reading this story. There was never a point where I lost interest. She gives you enough detail about the characters feelings to suck you into their heads but not bore you. It felt so real and I was able to understand the characters and feel for them. Allie is amazing!! Her life really is not an easy one, but she was able to make the best out of it. Now Jake, Jake stole my heart from the beginning. I was cheering him on from chapter one even though I knew he wasn’t getting the girl in the beginning. My heart actually ached for him as he had to stand by and be the supportive best friend while Ben lived the life that Jake wanted 🙁 And then Ben…WTF was he thinking?!? I felt like he had the potential to be an amazing guy and I actually am still torn about him, but he made BAD decisions!!

“I’m not amazing. I loved him. For a long time I loved him. And I have to believe he loved us too, the best way he could.” -Allie

And even though the story focuses on Aliie, Jake, and Ben mainly, there are so many other secondary characters that really made the story so great. I couldn’t help but love them all and cheer them all on. This story truly did touch my heart and make me think about how quickly life goes by. It makes you think about the little things and how important happiness is. I highly recommend you get your hands on this story and I give it the Book Bitch stamp of approval 🙂

  TIAL 1st Kiss Teaser

Hi there! I’m Alexandra Jane Harper, but just call me Allie—everyone does. Well, everyone except my dad. He and my mom are both teachers and I guess the apple really must fall close to the family tree because I’m only about six weeks away from being a teacher myself.

I was raised in the suburbs of Chicago with my parents and my older brother Ryan. I had a normal middle-class life and lived in a normal middle-class neighborhood. My parents let me take ballet lessons until I hit high school, where I joined the swim team and ran track.

When it came time to look at colleges my folks wanted me to consider schools nearby, but hello!—I was so done with endless winters full of snow, ice and freezing rain! So I took a pass and only applied to schools that promised sunshine and warmth—and discovered guys actually take off their shirts in February in Arizona!

Anyway, that’s how I ended up in Tempe and rooming with Reese Fielding. Most days she’s my bestie, but today? Possibly not. You see, I got dragged into a blind date with her boyfriend’s roommate tonight, this guy named Ben. And the last thing I need—or have time for—is a date with anyone, much less a player.

Hey there! Name’s Ben Tate. I grew up in Arizona, North Phoenix area with my dad and two younger brothers. I had a mom until I was about ten, but then some asshole decided he was Superman and got behind the wheel drunk.

So after that it was just us guys. And it was usually a houseful because, you know, we all had our friends over while my dad was at work. With us it was always baseball or football; but we even pushed the furniture back and held MMA matches in the living room sometimes. Never realized my dad knew about that; found out years later he did and was smart enough to store my mom’s breakable shit before we trashed it all.

My dad was great, but before my mom died, the whole family used to go to the lake with friends of theirs. That’s how Jake and I became so tight—they lived just down the street from us. We’ve got a lot of history between us, him and me. I don’t know what I’d do without him; he’s the best bud a guy could ask for.

Except right now? Yeah, today I could kick his ass. A blind date, what the hell? Hope this chick isn’t looking for a boyfriend, man, because I’m a free agent and have no plans to change that.

I was an only child AS YOU MAY HAVE GUESSED, probably spoiled, Certainly indulged. We traveled A LOT while I was growing up. GREAT VACATIONS ALL OVER THE WORLD. all part of my education, my folks would say. MY MOM AND DAD WERE BOTH PROFESSIONALS—SURGEONS—yet they were ALSO down-to-earth PEOPLE. Some of my favorite memories are THE days OUR FAMILY AND OUR FRIENDS THE TATES spent skiing TOGETHER. THAT WAS back before THEIR MOM DIED.

So, you want to hear the story of my life, huh? First off, I’m Bentley Logan Tate the Third, and isn’t that a mouthful! Thank God my parents thought ahead and gave me a pretty cool nickname. I’m fifteen years old and in high school. I do what most high school sophomores do: I play sports—baseball and football, I count the days until I turn sixteen and can drive—my birthday’s May 29th and I pay close attention when Becky Zimmerman wears tight t-shirts. Sue me; she’s got a nice rack.

Actually, sports is mostly what I’ve done my entire life. Jax Andrews—we’ve, like, been tight since we were in diapers—and a couple others have all played together on city-league teams since we were pee-wees. We could always count on my dad to be our coach.

I’ve always been able to count on my dad for everything. He taught me to ride my bike, he takes me fishing, we have “male bonding” my mom calls it. My mom’s cool too, but she has sissy names for everything, including me. And don’t’ ask, because I’m not telling you what they are.

Okay, dude, gotta wrap this up. I need to call Jax and make plans for tomorrow night. My mom and dad are going out of town and I’m supposed to spend the weekend at his house. One of these times my mom will realize I’m old enough to stay on my own, but it doesn’t’ look like it’s gonna be this time.

I write in quiet, but that’s about the only time I don’t have music playing. I don’t have a playlist for the book, but how about a peek at the most recently played songs on my iPod?

clip_image009Hi there! I’m Ruthie Henrick, and I’m an Arizona girl. I write romantic women’s fiction and contemporary romance.

I’ve always been an avid reader, even as a child. I’ll read just about anything, but I love anything with romance in it. I am a romance junkie.

I first started writing a couple of years ago. I’ve never been that person who dreamed about being an author or loved telling stories. I used to try making up bedtime stories when my kids were little and I’d draw a blank every time. But an idea had been running through my mind for a while so I decided to start typing and see where it led. Three months later I had a really good first draft. Let me tell you, nobody was more surprised than me!

I love music, especially country music, and that’s generally the soundtrack to whatever I have going on. At work, doing housework, in the car—the music is always on. Except when I write—that I have to do in silence.

We have three sons and they’re all grown and scattered around the country, but the Big Kahuna and I are still ruled by a fifteen-year-old deaf Pekinese with OCD. Life is interesting!

I’m not much of a TV watcher, except for shows like The Voice and American Idol. Gives me lots of time to write, and read. Like many of you, I have a one-click compulsion. The number of unread books on my Kindle is really embarrassing.

I love chatting with other readers, sharing my favorite books and authors, and discovering those new to me. Come by and hang out with me on any of my social media.

Making your book sparkle.

Ivy McAllister had it all. Perfect boyfriend. Perfect life. Perfect future. Or so they tell her. Because one night, on a dark country road, a fiery crash changed everything…and Ivy can’t remember what happened.

Now, two years later, at a new college far from home, she tries to regain control of her life, but her plans don’t include a tattooed, motorcycle-riding, indie music-obsessed guy with his own sorority girl fan club.

Jon Priestly is the hottest guy at Pacific State University. Just ask his groupies. But with a dark past he must keep hidden, he shuts himself off emotionally and trusts no one. That is…until he meets a broken girl with haunting green eyes and secrets of her own.

Ivy shouldn’t be attracted to Jon. They’re wrong for each other in every possible way. Yet as they spend time together, something about him—everything about him—feels so right.

But when threats from her past make her question what little she does remember, Ivy must decide whether to run again or trust the one person she can’t live without.

4 Stars

I really enjoyed this read! It had the perfect balance of what I look for in a read. Romance, drama, a bit of sizzle, a misunderstood guy and growth in life and love.

This read captured my attention and had me interested and invested in the two main characters lives.
Jon is the misunderstand “bad boy” and Ivy ( love this name) as the girl who just wants to focus on school and does not want anyone complicating that. Well enter Jon and that makes Ivy’s life and goals flip.

The characters have nice chemistry and are real. They are going through realistic issues and I like that! I wanted and enjoyed being on their journey with them.

There are some interesting elements that come into play that add to the story. I liked how the author didn’t give anything away to quickly – it felt realistic the pace she lead us on.

The secondary characters were fun too! I wish there had been a bit more with Cassidy and Touch- I felt like I was left  hanging there.

Overall a great read!

Lost in Us by Layla Hagen
Publication date: February 17th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Serena has learned to live with her past, locking her secrets and nightmares deep inside her. But when her boyfriend of six years abruptly leaves her, she’s catapulted back into pain, nursing a broken heart. When indulging in mountains of chocolate doesn’t work, Serena decides the best way to deal with her shattered heart is to indulge in something else. A rebound . . .

The night she swaps her usual Sprite for tequila, she meets James. The encounter is breathtaking.
And best not repeated.

James is a successful entrepreneur in Silicon Valley. A man who has amassed a fortune by taking risks. A man who has shunned commitment completely, and still does. He’s the exact opposite of Serena. But sometimes opposites attract. Sometimes they give in to burning passion. Sometimes opposites are perfect for each other.

James is everything her damaged soul could want. His kisses are intoxicating, his touch out of this world. He makes her forget. He grants her peace from her pain. But as they grow closer, Serena discovers she isn’t the only one with a past. James carries the scars of a past much darker than hers. One that has left him damaged, hurt, and wary of love. A past that gives him the power to shatter her.

Now James and Serena must find a way to mend one another. Or risk losing each other forever.

~~ 4 “Drama Filled” Stars ~~

If you are a fan of a book that is full of Drama and Angst….then this is the book for you. Lost in Us had so much drama that by the end I was just praying for a HEA. Now with that said I loved this book. I thought the pace and flow was really great. Even though the storyline is similar to other books out there, this one still felt different to me because of the amount of drama built into the story. I really liked Layla’s writing style, I only wish she would’ve written this book in Dual POV. There were a lot of times I was dying to know what James was thinking. Before reading this book, I would suggest you read the prequel Lost. I know it says that Lost can be read before or after, but I read it before and I think it helped build a connection to the characters that I don’t think would’ve been there without it. Lost in Us jumps right into the story and James and Serena meeting and hooking up. If you are not a fan of the insta-love/attraction type story then you for sure need to read Lost first. (Lost is told over an 8 year time frame and you really get to know the characters and what has broken them both so deeply.) This story is truly a roller coaster on your emotions. My heart was all over the place. The main reason that I couldn’t give this book a 5 star rating was because I felt that the drama and angst kind of dragged on for to long. By the end of the book I was getting sick and tired of the push and pull James and Serena had going on. (More Serena then James) I would’ve liked to see more of their story of them together and how they worked to help each other get over their pasts. But with that said I still thoroughly enjoyed this book and it definitely kept my attention all the way through. I will say I was also thrilled with how the author ended this story, I thought it was perfect.

James and Serena have to be the 2 most broken characters I have read about in a long time. I truly didn’t think either of these 2 were going to overcome their issues. James and Serena are actually very similar in the fact that what happened to them in the past is very similar, but the way they each dealt with this issue was completely different. Honestly on the outside James and Serena couldn’t be more different, but like they always say opposites attract….and boy did these two attract 😉 Their physical chemistry was off the charts!!!! I will say that I liked Serena in the beginning, but by the end she was starting to grate on my nerves. I wanted to smack her on the head. I understood her feelings about risk taking and why she continued to push James away, but James did everything in his power to prove to her that he cared and loved her. Her final reason for pushing James away in the end I thought was just foolish. I can’t explain what I mean because it would give it away, but let me just say I was glad that she finally came to her senses. As for James….I LOVED him. Yes he was your typical commitment phobe and player but he totally won me over with his actions in the book. There was one spot earlier on that James did something I wasn’t happy with and that is one spot I wish we had James’s POV, but it was explained later and I was able to move on from there. I loved that James was a risk taker, but was also willing to do whatever to make Serena happy and make her dreams come true. (Whenever I hear the name Willy Wonka, I will always think of James) You need to read the book to know what I mean 😉

The secondary characters in this book were fabulous. Dani, Jess, and Parker were my favorites. Jess was a great BFF to Serena and I loved their banter and the bond they have. Each of these characters added a great aspect to this story and helping James and Serena become better people and couple. I am looking forward to reading about Parker and Jess’s story in the next book.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of a love story with a lot of drama and angst.

Taking big risks had always been Archer Brook’s way of life. It’s what has to be done in order to get what you want, and he knew that better than anyone. Archer may have been born into a life of wealth and privilege, but he’d proven time and time again that his success was a result of his own true grit and determination. The savvy businessman was an experienced player in the game of life, always knowing when to ante up or when to cash out.

It was time to do both.

Burned out on the bright lights of Vegas, once the successful night club owner found the best of both worlds tucked away in a quiet Mississippi town, he never looked back.

That was until she walked into his bar.

Life has never been easy for Katy Vaughn. The preacher’s daughter turned small town rebel has seen her fair share of heartbreak, and she’s tired. Katy is done with men who have no idea what they want or how to treat a woman. She wants a real man. One who can give her everything she’s ever dreamed of. One who will give her everything she needs. Lovers of the past may have broken her heart, but they could never break her spirit.

There was only one man capable of that.

You never know when love will come along and change…everything.

I watched him approach from the corner of my eye as

I handed the customer his change. With a nod to the

patron, he leaned down close to my ear. “I swear to

Christ- if you don’t stop shakin’ your ass, I’m gonna

fuck you right here in front of God and everybody.”

Warmth pulsed feverishly between my thighs.

Swallowing hard, I tried to speak but couldn’t seem to

grasp a single word. “Your ass is mine later,” he

promised, sauntering past me to the other end of the

bar to talk to Jesse. All I could think about was his

peppermint scent and his hands on my body. I smiled.

And that my ass belonged to him.

Seven years ago, they fell in love in Paris.

They walked away at the end of the summer, never imagining they’d meet again.

Now he’s her client.

We fell in love the way you jump from a cliff. Hard and fast with a reckless sense of abandon. The six weeks we spent together changed my life, but at seventeen, I was naive. I was a dreamer. A believer.

Now I’m twenty-four and cynical. I don’t believe in love. There’s no place for such emotions as a high class escort. The only things I’m allowed to feel are physical – and that’s why it’s so damn hard when the client of a last minute job turns out to be the man I left in France seven years ago. When he buys me for six weeks at triple my rate, my agent makes it clear I have no choice but to take the job despite our previous relationship. And my heart makes it very clear I have to stay firmly on top of the cliff this time.

“With quirky characters, laugh-out-loud moments, and a touching romance, Third Degree is a refreshing entry in the New Adult genre. I can’t wait to read what Julie Cross comes up with next!”—Roni Loren, bestselling author of Need You Tonight

“I fell for quirky, brainy, socially awkward child prodigy Izzy and even more so for her sweet, compassionate, and hot RA, Marshall. I was rooting for their happily-ever-after and was sighing with satisfaction by the end.”—Christina Lee, author of the Between Breaths series

“Loved! Fans of Huntley Fitzpatrick’s My Life Next Door and Tammara Webber’s Easy will fall hard for this book.”—Krista Ritchie, co-author of the Addicted to You series

~~ 4 “Life Changing” Stars ~~

This was my first book by Julie Cross and I have to say I wasn’t disappointed. I was attracted to this book after reading the blurb, and I am happy to say that this was quite unexpected (Totally in a good way). I enjoyed this book a lot….The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star rating was because I thought it dragged a little too much for my liking…at least the first half of the book did. I will say that the second half of the book is what saved this story for me. Once we get to around the 54% mark…the book totally changed for me. I will say this book was different from the NA books I have been reading lately…and that is very refreshing. I enjoyed Julie’s writing style and I thought the story was interesting enough that it kept me interested throughout the whole book. I just wish we would’ve gotten a little more of the love story in the first half of the book. I will say that the fun medical facts that start each chapter were AWESOME!!! I learned some interesting things from those blurbs.

What I loved about this story was the Characters that Julie Cross created. I thought Marshall was all kinds of swoony and I thought Isabel (Izzy) was interesting (I can’t expand on that because you have to read this book to understand her “quirks”) What I truly liked about these characters, was the fact that they weren’t like the normal College Aged characters we see in most NA books. We meet Isabel as an 18 year old Medical intern….she is a child prodigy. What we do learn right from the beginning is that Izzy lacks the emotional connection Dr.’s have with their patients and this leads to her not getting a residency at John’s Hopkins (Her dream Hospital) What we get from here is a story of a girl’s journey to becoming a better person and learning how to fit in and be “normal”. In doing this Izzy decided to go back to college and experience college like an 18 yr old would do. Things don’t go very smoothly for Izzy, at least not until she meets Marshall. I loved these 2 together. They truly compliment each other. We find out during the story that Marshall is fighting demons of his own. This is where the storyline was different for me. Julie Cross covered a subject I haven’t seen in books before and I learned quite a bit about it. You’ll just have to read the book to know what I am talking about. I honestly believe that Marshall and Izzy saved each other…they met and came into each others lives when they both needed someone.

We did meet other characters throughout this story but this story truly does focus on Marshall and Izzy. The side characters lending a supporting hand when needed in the story. I did love Marshall’s family….they had me laughing quite a bit.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for that NA love story that is not the like “normal” NA storyline. This book had me smiling throughout most of it but it also tugged at my heart when need be.

fts teaser 1

I practically jump out of the car and run to the door when we pull up to the house. Just as I’m about to turn the knob, I feel a set of hands grab my hips and I let out a shriek. I turn my head to the side and Shawn’s face is only an inch from mine. My heartbeat immediately speeds up—having him this close to me with his hands where they are is torture.

“What if we give this a try and it doesn’t work?” he whispers in my ear, his hot breath giving me goose bumps all over.

“What if we give it a try and it does?” His fingers dig into my hipbones in response. I turn to face him, wrapping my arms around his neck.

He walks me backward, presses me against the door, and kisses me. His lips are so soft and his tongue immediately finds its way into my mouth. He completely dominates me the same way he had earlier. When he pulls away, I can barely catch my breath.

“Okay, let’s give it a try.”

When I look into his eyes, he gives me a smile and then walks back to his truck. I stand there like an idiot until he pulls away and turns the corner.

~~ 4 Stars ~~

So I’ll start by saying this review might be on the short side, just because this book was shorter then the first 2. It also might be slightly vague because things that I want to put into this review would ruin the story for everyone.

Fighting to Survive is Book 3 of the Guarded Hearts series by Ashley Piscitelli. I thought this was a great concluding book to this series. This book is mainly about Shawn and Christen, but it also concludes the stories of all of the characters from the previous books. This book was an extremely quick read…I finished it in less then 6 hours. Part of that is because it is a shorter book (almost more like a novella) but also because it is so smoothly written that it just moves right along and before you know the story is over. Ashley gives us a bit of everything in this book. We got love, laughs, steam, drama, and even some suspense. My only real negative and why I didn’t give it 5 stars was because I didn’t think it was long enough. I felt that some of the parts were slightly rushed and could’ve been expanded on a little more. The suspense and drama part of the story happen pretty close to the end, which in turn made the conclusions of that part of the story pass too quickly. I also felt that the ending of the epilogue was kind of abrupt….the way the final sentence is stated it sort of leads me to believe that there could be a book for Holly someday. ( I wouldn’t be opposed to that at all…hint, hint 😉 ) With that said, I truly did enjoy this whole series and I am glad I got the chance to read it!!!!

We met Shawn and Christen in Book 2 of this series. They are both friends of Carter, Maddy, Jason, and Nicole. In book 2 Shawn is very secretive and the author never revealed anything until book 3. We did find out in book 2 that Christen has been attracted to Shawn since the day they met. So when book 3 starts and Shawn and Christen get together pretty quickly it actually really kind of works. I know a lot of people don’t like the insta-love thing but this scenario worked because they had met prior to getting together. Ashley also does a great job letting the reader know that it really doesn’t matter then length of time a couple have been together, when you know its right you just know. I really liked both Shawn and Christen’s characters. They both knew what they wanted out of life and were willing to whatever they had to, to make their dreams come true. I loved that Christen wasn’t the spoiled brat she could’ve turned into because she comes from money….she was very down to earth and knew she didn’t want to rely on her controlling parents. These two made a great couple.

As I said before I was glad to see Carter, Madison, Jason, Nicole, and Holly all in this story. I have absolutely fallen in love with each of these characters and their stories. I was glad to see that all the unanswered questions that still lingered on from book 1 and 2 were completely answered in book 3.

I would recommend this book/series to anyone looking for a quick series that is a great love story, with just enough drama and suspense to keep you coming back for more. I will definitely continue reading anything Ashley writes!!!!
