synopsis

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Wait for You and Be with Me comes a daring tale that pushes boundaries . . .

At 21, Calla hasn’t done a lot of things. She’s never been kissed, never seen the ocean, never gone to an amusement park. But growing up, she witnessed some things no child ever should. She still carries the physical and emotional scars of living with a strung-out mother, Mona—secrets she keeps from everyone, including her close circle of college friends.

But the safe cocoon Calla has carefully built is shattered when she discovers her mom has stolen her college money and run up a huge credit card debt in her name. Now, Calla has to go back to the small town she thought she’d left behind and clean up her mom’s mess again. Of course, when she arrives at her mother’s bar, Mona is nowhere to be found. Instead, six feet of hotness named Jackson James is pouring drinks and keeping the place humming.

Sexy and intense, Jax is in Calla’s business from the moment they meet, giving her a job and helping her search for Mona. And the way he looks at her makes it clear he wants to get horizontal . . . and maybe something more. Before Calla can let him get close, though, she’s got to deal with the pain of the past—and some very bad guys out to mess her up if she doesn’t give them her mom.

~~ 3.5 – 4 Stars ~~

Jennifer Armentrout has a way of creating wonderful stories…from Paranormal to New Adult.  She has a way of bringing her readers in and not letting go until the end of the book.

Stay With Me is the 4th book in her New Adult series.  I have to admit this one wasn’t my favorite of the group.  Wait For You will always be my favorite, but I have to say that Jennifer knows how to create AMAZING Heroes.  Every single guy we meet in this series are amazing!!!  Jax is no different.  Jax is the main reason I gave this book a 4 stars…the reason for the undecided and giving partially a 3.5 stars also was because I thought the book was a little on the long side, which led to it dragging in spots. (This book is over 400 pages and that is a long time to keep someone’s interest)  I also wasn’t very fond of Calla.  She was extremely naive and at times some of the dialogue from her reminded me of a 14 yr old girl.  She used her naiveness as an excuse one to many times for me.  By the end I just wanted to smack her.

Even with that said I did enjoy this book.  I thought the storyline was intriguing and kept me wanting to turn the page, I just thought that it took to long for the main storyline to come out or to be resolved.  There was even a little twist towards the end that was hinted at during the book, but it finally came out in the end and I thought it was so sweet and endearing.

Jax really saved this book for me.  I honestly loved his character.  He is an ex marine and he had gone through some horrible stuff over seas.  He carried some deep scars with him, but he didn’t seem broken like other armed service guys I have read about.  I think working at the bar and meeting Calla really gave him purpose.  He was the type of guy that was so sweet, but also possessive and knew how to melt a girl’s panties.  Now even though Calla wasn’t my favorite, I still felt bad for her.  She saw some seriously messed up stuff as a kid and went through a horrific event at a young age.  She was also left with some serious scars and because of those she didn’t have the best self esteem, which caused her to shut herself off.  I loved watching Jax open her up and help her learn to love and trust herself and others.  I thought the pace of their relationship was really good….I loved that Jax didn’t want to rush things with her until she was ready to open herself up to him.

“Our relationship turned out to be a very bright silver lining in a sad, dark cloud.”….Calla

We got to meet some new characters in this book and I thought they were all really great with the exception of Aimee.  Roxy, Nick, Pearl and Clyde were great friends to both Calla and Jax.  I was also glad to see the other characters from the other books.  Even though they make an appearance this book can still be read as a standalone.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of this series and also a fan of Jennifer Armentrout.  This book had a little bit of everything….I laughed, teared up, yelled,  swooned, and she kept me guessing throughout the book.
