Title: Hidden In Lies (Lies and Truth #1)
Series: Lies and Truth
Author: Rachael Duncan
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: February 5, 2015
Who needs love when you have money?
It used to be enough, but now it’s not.
Not since he walked into my life and made me question everything.
Now I want more, but I know that’s impossible.
Things aren’t always as they seem.
My true self is hidden, and that works for me.
Or it did.
I hide in a bed of deception to disguise myself, and I’m good at it.
Or I was.
I’m Elizabeth Fitzgerald.
I’m a Senator’s wife.
And I hate my life.
After a few minutes, he says, “I know there’s more to you, Elizabeth. I can tell there’s someone hidden inside you dying to come out. I can see it in the fake smile you show everyone, including Cal, the way you frown when you’re alone in your thoughts, and the sadness that’s lurking in your eyes. Why are you hiding?”
God help me, but there’s something in the way he speaks to me that makes me want to lay all my secrets and sins bare. He’s soft and gentle, but most importantly, I believe he wants to know more about me. He’s not asking to gain leverage or use it to his advantage, he’s genuinely concerned. And it makes me want to tell him everything. But the rational side of my brain tells me not to, so I reel in this strange impulse to divulge my secrets to a man I hardly know.

5 “Money doesn’t bring happiness.” Stars
That ending just broke my heart!! Ouch!! That one hurt. Hidden in Lies is a story of love, sacrifices, and strength. The story centers around Elizabeth and her marriage to the “Cal Fitzgerald,” senator and soon to be president. She is meant to be the perfect wife, but is dying inside while she pretends to be in a happy marriage.
“There are no butterflies in my stomach, no tingling or heat pooling in my center. Nothing.”
As you can see, I gave this story 5 stars. And honestly, it wasn’t a full five star review for me till the end. Here I was reading along and enjoying what I think is going to be a sweet little happily ever after story, and then BAM!!! Yep, I hit a brick wall at the end that totally shocked me and broke my heart. The author knocked it out of the park with that ending!! That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy the whole story. I did, and I read it quickly because I just knew there would be that WTF moment, eventually….just not this WTF moment! Elizabeth’s marriage to Cal infuriated me. I got so mad at the way she allowed herself to be treated. But when the truth comes out about why she allowed it, my heart then ached for her, and I totally understood.
“My step falters as I take in the sexiest man my eyes have ever seen.”
Some may read this story and think it’s the usual story about a girl stuck in a bad marriage and falls in love with someone else, and it is, but there is so much more to it in the end. And I hope so much more to come. Elizabeth is a strong and compassionate woman, and I can’t wait to see her hopefully get her “knight in shining armor” and happily ever after. And Alex…everyone needs an Alex in their lives. He makes this story and that’s all I am going to say about him 😉
This is a well written and smooth flowing story with a rockin’ ending, that comes highly recommended by this Book Bitch!
Rachael Duncan is an Army wife living in North Carolina with her husband and two kids. She grew up in Nashville, Tennessee and went on to graduate from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a bachelor’s degree in political science. After working on Capitol Hill for a short time, she realized that a career in politics just wasn’t for her. A couple years later, she rediscovered her love for reading and writing. She’s the author of Tackled by Love as well.
And don’t we all like to know a little about the authors who right these amazing books!?!
•Coke or Pepsi? Dr. Pepper 🙂
•McDonalds or Burger King? McDonalds
•Favorite body part on a man? Eyes. I focus on them a lot in my writing. I feel like a person’s eyes are one of the most expressive features and can tell a lot about their feelings, thoughts, and moods.
•Do you enjoy writing sex scenes and why? Ha! Not really. It can get very technical. Did she pull his shirt off? Is it possible to pull it off from this position? Oops, forgot to take off her panties. It can be a little tedious. lol
•Do you use personal experience when writing sex scenes? OMG *starts blushing* Here’s the funny thing about that…My dad calls me a few weeks ago and says he read my first book, Tackled by Love. I was a little embarrassed since I knew there were some sex scenes in there, but it’s not erotica so I tried to dismiss my worries. A week or so later, I had to look back through it and came across a steamy scene, and I. Wanted. To. Die. I had forgotten how…graphic it was and all I kept thinking was oh God, he’s going to think this is from experience! Needless to say, I text messaged him (because I was too mortified to call) and told him he’s not allowed to read any more of my books.
•As an author what is your overall long term goals? To keep writing. I love what I do and as long as people like the stories that I’ve written, then I’m happy.
