Sometimes you can’t change—and sometimes you just don’t want to. Discover Ben’s side of the story in this fourth novel by the beloved, top-selling indie author of Ten Tiny Breaths,One Tiny Lie, and Four Seconds to Lose.
Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.
Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.
If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

Five Ways to Fall is the fourth and final (at this time) book in the Ten Tiny Breaths Series. I have loved this series right from the start. K. A. Tucker created characters that live with you well after you finish the books. Her writing style is flawless and seamless. She knows how to suck a reader into the story and not let go. I am truly going to miss these characters and their stories. This will be a series I will read again and again.
I will say that Five Ways to Fall wasn’t what I was expecting. I can’t truly tell you what I thought Ben’s story would be like but I just know it wasn’t what we got. Now that doesn’t mean I didn’t thoroughly enjoy this book…I DID!!!!! I guess what surprised me was the push and pull aspect of this story. I wasn’t expecting Ben’s love interest to be so stuck on her ex….I wanted to smack her so many times. Although I did really love Reese. She was a great character except for that small flaw of being hung up on her ex, especially after what he did to her. My only complaint, and it isn’t even that major, is that I wish we would’ve gotten to see Ben and Reese together as a couple more or longer. I loved watching their friendship and then relationship turn to more and grow to being stronger together, but I would’ve just liked it sooner. Now like I said that was just a small thing to me and to many that probably won’t even bother them.
We met Ben in Book 1 and he made recurring appearances in the other books as well. I fell in love with him in TTB. I was so excited that he was getting his own story. Ben was and is that lovable player that you just want to give a big hug to. I knew he would have an interesting backstory and his was quite heartbreaking. I felt so bad for what happened to him and his family while he was growing up. Now I know a lot of people might not agree with me but I was glad to see how things turned out for his family. I think they will become a stronger unit now. I can’t say anymore because I don’t want to spoil anything. I think the only thing I would’ve liked would’ve been for Ben not to be such a player (with the “twinkie”) once he was getting closer to Reese. There was NO cheating ,but he had already established an emotional connection to Reese and I just wanted them together. As for Reese….she was such a great heroine. She actually reminded me a lot of Kacey from book 1. Reese is a strong and independent person, with a wild side to her. She had sass and spunk 😉 She didn’t shy away from things just because she might get into trouble (and believe me she gets into her far share). Reese didn’t have the best parental units which causes her to have some serious trust issues. Plus her Ex was a douche and just added to her trust issues. All Reese really wanted was to feel loved and wanted!!! The banter and relationship that forms with her and Ben was great. It will make you laugh, cry and blush.
I loved that we got to meet some new characters as secondary characters. They all added something great to this story. K. A. introduced us to some really great characters…Mason, Lina, Wilma, Jack, and Nicki. She also gave us the characters that I wanted to smack (a lot)…..Jared, Caroline (even though I felt bad for her in the end) and Annabelle. We did get to see brief glimpses of past characters, but not a lot. I would’ve liked a little more of an update on some of them , but I wasn’t that disappointed that we didn’t get it. I liked that she really kept this as Ben’s story. That’s one thing about this series….each of the books can truly be read as standalones, because each story/book is one of it’s own with only brief glimpses of past characters. With that said K.A. does a great job filling in any missing blanks as to how the characters are connected.
I would 100% recommend this book and the entire series. These books have a little bit of everything so any reader can find something they enjoy from these stories. I will definitely miss these stories and characters, I am sad to see it end.
Born in small-town Ontario, Kathleen published her first book at the age of six with the help of her elementary school librarian and a box of crayons. She is a voracious reader and the farthest thing from a genre-snob, loving everything from High Fantasy to Chick Lit. Kathleen currently resides in a quaint small town outside of Toronto with her husband, two beautiful girls, and an exhausting brood of four-legged creatures.
