~ 4.5 Wildflower and her Shield Stars ~
What I love about Gigi’s books is how her titles match the story so well. Unshakable was the perfect title of this book. I felt it described Damien to a T. I also love how she draws off of real life to create her stories. This makes her stories feel real and believable.
Unshakable is the fourth book in Gigi Aveces’s Able Series. This is the final book in this series and I am sad to see it end. I have truly enjoyed this series and the characters she has created. Each of these books can be read as a stand alone, but to get the full feel of the stories and characters my recommendation is to read them in order. We see all the same characters in each of the books, so it will help when connecting all the major players of this series.
As with all the other books in this series, this book was superbly written and well thought out. You can tell this book is well researched. I thought the storyline in this book was great. I enjoyed that she kept us guessing all the way until the end. I was able to guess one major part of the story, but don’t get me wrong, she was still able to shock me once everything was revealed. One thing about this book compared to the others,is that I didn’t find this one as heart wrenchingly emotional as the other three before it. Now don’t get me wrong, this book had my emotions all over the place, but I didn’t go through a whole box of tissues with this book. FYI….you will still need some tissues, but just not as many…LOL 😉 To be honest my overall feeling while reading this story was frustration and anger, mostly towards the heroine. With that said I still loved this book and would recommend it to everyone.
Unshakable is the story of Damien and Sophia. We met Damien from the beginning in the other books and Sophia was introduced to us at the end of book 3 (if I remember correctly) Damien is in love with Sophia, but he has a job that prevents him from acting on it. He is her Secret Service Agent (Her Shield). Sophia is the daughter of the President so she requires security at all times. So the question this leads is can the love for a person out shine the love of your job? Is Damien willing to give everything up for Sophia? You’ll just have to read the book to see if Damien’s love is UNSHAKABLE 😉
“I’m her shield, because loving her isn’t my purpose in life. It IS my life.”….Damien
I loved Damien from all the other books and was so excited to finally get to read his story. He did not disappoint me at all. I loved him throughout this whole book. His loyalty and devotion to Sophia was amazing!!! Now the reason I just couldn’t give this book a full 5 stars like I did the others, is because Sophia drove me crazy on more than one occasion. She is a 23 year old woman, but at times she acted like a teenager. I understand that her life is different from a normal 23 year old being that she is the President’s daughter, but her insecurities really ran away with her. I was hoping by a certain point in the story that would’ve changed but it really didn’t. So for that reason I had to take a 1/2 star away. But in NO means did my non connection to Sophia deter my enjoyment of this book. Damien truly makes this story for me and for that reason alone I will read this book again in the future 🙂
I can’t say much about the storyline itself, because this is a book that needs to unravel everything in it’s own time. I don’t do spoilers 😉 Just know that Damien and Sophia’s road to happiness is not an easy one and there are many bumps and bruises along the way, but the ending of this book was so worth it all!!!!
Definitely a book I will 100% recommend to all of my friends !!!!
After growing up in the Philippines, I now live in California with my husband and two girls. My husband survived two bouts of cancer, AML Leukemia and Mucoid Carcinoma; hence, the inspiration for Unbreakable. I thank the good Lord for healing my husband, twice. It can’t get any better than that.
Our oldest, Andrea is a junior in APU. When she looks at my computer, the first thing out of her mouth is “Mom! What are you looking at? Dad!” Our youngest, Allysa is a freshman in high school. The few times she passed by me and looked over my shoulder when I was writing, her reaction was, “Mom! I’m telling dad!” There you have it; I have two double agents in my house. What happened to loyalty?
If my husband is the ying to my yang, Andrea is the Marlin to my Dory while Allysa is the Buzz Lightyear to my Woody. I love the beach, but I hate the sand; I love to travel, but I hate to fly; I love to eat but, I hate gaining weight (all women can relate to this); and so goes my little quirks in life.
Am I crazy? Well, the jury is still out on that one; however, I’d like to think if I can make one person smile with my craziness, it’s all worth it.
