“Several emotional topics — such as drug addiction, abandonment, infertility and unexpectedly becoming a parent — are easily woven together without making the story feel crowded or overdone. Foster writes exceptional characters that keep readers thinking long after the book is finished… The dynamic members of the Whiskey family are the foundation that holds the group together and they are exactly the reason we’re taught not to judge. Let’s hope we hear more from all of them!” RT Book Reviews

~ 5 Tru Blue Stars ~
Let me start off by saying this is my favorite Melissa Foster book to date. I LOVED this story something fierce.
The storyline was engaging and kept my attention all the way through and the characters were so lovable!!! I can honestly say there really wasn’t one character that I didn’t like, I guess with the exception of Gemma’s mom, but thankfully she didn’t have a huge part in this story. I loved that this book wasn’t overloaded with a lot of drama or outside factors that seem to usually break a couple apart. This story was truly about Truman and Gemma finding love and figuring out the best ways to live their lives.
Truman was an amazing Hero and he definitely makes my Top Ten list of Book Boyfriends. He was the perfect mix of Alpha male and man with the heart of gold. He is hazardous to a woman’s ovaries….LOL 🙂 I am always a sucker for the single dad story with adorable little kids in the story. That’s exactly what this story is about. Truman had a horrible upbringing and when his brother Quincy calls him telling him he needs him, Truman goes without question. When he gets there his world is turned upside down. Now responsible for his younger siblings, Truman steps up to the plate and does whatever is necessary to make sure Kennedy and Lincoln grow up in healthy and loving household. In comes Gemma…..who he meets at the local Walmart. Gemma was an amazing heroine also. I loved her character so much. She grew up in a privileged home, but without love. All she is hoping for is to find someone to love her and build a family with. I loved how she stepped up to help Truman without even second guessing her decision. What happens though when Gemma finds out about Truman’s past??? Will she be able to overlook it and still find love?? What happens when Truman’s past collides with his Present?? Will they come out better in the end?? Read this book to get those answers.
I have grown to love Melissa’s writing style. She knows how to suck her readers into the characters lives and make you feel like a part of the story. The flow and pace of this story was amazing. Even though this story takes place over a short period of time, you don’t come out of it feeling like it’s an insta-love story. I thought it worked perfectly for Gemma and Truman.
As I said earlier, I loved the secondary characters just as much as I loved Gemma and Truman. I will say though, Kennedy and Lincoln really stole the show for me. My heart warmed everytime the story revolved around them. I am looking forward to reading Bear’s story….I really hope Crystal is involved in his book.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of the single father type story, but also a story about finding love and redemption. If you like a Hero who is protective and strong and puts the ones he loves first, then this is the book for you to read!!!
