To Chuito the apartment was a self-imposed prison for a lifetime of sins. To Alaine, the girl next door, it was salvation from her overbearing, religious father.
He was a devil.
She was an angel.
Two people who should’ve never met, let alone become friends, but it’s not until they give into the dangerous passion that’s been simmering under the surface for five years that things go to hell.
On the outside, Chuito ‘The Slayer’ Garcia is on top of the world. He’s successful. He’s wealthy. He’s a champion MMA fighter surrounded by friends who support him, but they don’t know what he was before he came to Garnet.
Now his past is churning up demons he can’t ignore. Chuito knows he needs to go back to Miami to end it, but there’s something holding him back, a single temptation he can’t resist before leaving.
She’s the one drug he can’t give up…even if it destroys them both.
“To me you’re coke. Fine. Smooth. Perfectly white. Very bad for me, but so fucking sexy I don’t give a shit. It’s worth going down for.” – Chuito Garcia

~ 3.5 – 4 ‘Mami’ Stars ~
The Slayer is Book 2 in Kele Moon’s Untamed Hearts Series. This was a book I was so looking forward to because I have had a soft spot for Chuito ever since he was introduced in the Battered Hearts Series.
So it sort of pains me to say that this was an enjoyable read, it just didn’t WOW me. I gave it a split rating because for the first 50% of the book I thought it was 3.5 star read. But once I hit the 56% mark in the story everything came to life.
I thought the way the author told the story was well written, but I just thought we got too much information about the 5 years Chuito spent in Garnet. I loved seeing how him and Alaine met and progressed as friends, but I just thought some of the “past” chapters could’ve either been shortened or left out and it wouldn’t have affected the story at all. To me all that extra information seemed to slow down the pace of the story.
To be honest, I thought this book was going to be what we got in the second half of the book. The second half was un-put-downable. It had romance, sex, laughter and action. I was on the edge of my seat for the whole second half. It truly was heart stopping in some spots. I think that if the whole book had been about this storyline, then this would’ve been a 5 star read for me. But because the beginning was lacking something, the second half of the book brought it up to the 4 stars.
With all that said I am still truly looking forward to Tino and Nova’s stories. Kele did an amazing job setting up Tino’s story in the epilogue of this book. I can tell that his story is going to be a wild ride. I also can’t wait to see what happens in Nova’s book, because something comes out in this book regarding Nova and I can’t wait to see how he handles it. That book is going to be a nail biter 😉
Overall this was a an enjoyable read and there are many things I did like about it. I thought the storyline was interesting and the characters were great. I loved that we got to see more of Wyatt, Tabitha, Romeo and Jules in this book. I thought it was interesting how she showed us a different side to some scenes from past books from Chuito’s POV or we got more detail on certain events that happened in the past. She filled in some holes that were left after reading the other books. I was also glad that we got to see Marcos, Katie and Sophia again in this book. It was great seeing how things were going for them.
If you are a fan of Kele Moon and this series, then you are definitely going to want to read this story. All these books are standalones, but I wouldn’t suggest that. My opinion would be to read them in order. Start with the Battered Hearts Series and then move onto The Untamed Hearts series. I think the characters and their connections will make more sense to the reader if you read these books in order. There is a lot of information that you miss if you either read them out of order or skip a book in the series.

“I’m an addict. You know that. Getting off the drugs has never changed that. If I—”
He swallowed hard, and his voice was still full of pain. “I just can’t. I shouldn’t even touch you.”
“You drink,” she pointed out. “You’re not addicted to that.”
“Alcohol is not my drug of choice. It’s the exact opposite of it.”
“I’m not cocaine,” she reminded him.
“That’s what you think?” He glanced at her over his shoulder, his dark gaze running over her for one long, hot moment until it stopped to rest on the pink lace of her bra.
