Back to the Drawing Board was an enjoyable read. It had what a good romance novel should have. There was laughter, angst, sexy times, and of course love. This book didn’t have a whole lot of drama and what there was of it was short lived. I really liked that, because it focused on Julia and Carter.

This book is kind of considered a third in a series, but I would also say it is a standalone. I didn’t read the two prior books and I didn’t feel lost at all. This is more of a spin off if anything. This book was about Blake and Liane’s Son Carter. Even though I didn’t read the other books about Blake and Liane, I still got the full jist of their story and how it plays into Carter’s story.

I will say that this book started out different than I expected. The prologue sucked me in and is not what I was expecting. (Totally is a good way) We get most of Carter’s backstory in the prologue and it sets up the rest of the book as to where Carter’s head is emotionally. This story is told in Dual POV, which I love. I felt this was a complete story also. I didn’t end this book with the thought of I wonder how the characters end up down the road. LL Collins does a fantastic job giving us Carter and Julia’s full story.

If you are a fan of angst then I would definitely recommend this book to you to read. The push and pull that Julia and Carter go through in the beginning was a lot. I understood why Carter was pushing Julia away….it was almost a taboo type story, being that Julia was his boss, and he didn’t want to jeopardize his career. One thing I truly loved was that Julia was the aggressor in this book. Usually we see the Hero being the one to pursue the heroine, but not in this one Julia went after what she wanted (Carter) and wouldn’t take no for an answer. I really liked that!! Now at times I felt Julia was a strong lead, but then there were times I wanted to smack her and tell her to grow up. I would’ve liked to see that strong female lead all the way through the book.

What I truly enjoy about LL Collins’s books, is that she creates real stories and real characters. Her stories are stories that could happen in real life and we get the feelings and reactions of characters as they would handle things in reality. She is able to tell the story so that the reader is able to connect with the characters and feel what they are feeling.

I will warn you though that this story is kind of the insta-love/lust type story. Right from the get go, Julia and Carter are attracted to each other, but their feelings grew for each other fairly quickly. So if you aren’t a big fan of that type storyline, then this might not be the book for you. For me I really liked it and felt it worked well for these characters. This story really shows you how even the best laid plans can be changed when you meet the right person!!!

“Let’s play a game,” I said, breaking the silence. “A quick one. We’re only a few minutes away from the restaurant.”
“Never Have I Ever again?”
“Nope. Let’s do a short version of Twenty Questions. Like, two questions. We can resume later.”
“Tell me the rules.”
“We get to ask each other any two questions, and we have to answer them.”          Carter cleared his throat, looking over at me. “Sounds…interesting.”
“You start,” I said. I wanted him to get personal.
“You’re putting me on the spot,” he laughed.
“That’s the point.”
“Okay….have you had a serious boyfriend before?”
I furrowed my brow. That’s what he wanted to know? “Yes. In high school. We broke up after our first year of college and I haven’t talked to him since. His name was Scott.”          A look I didn’t understand passed over his face. “He was your only boyfriend? Like, ever?”
“That’s what you want for your second question? It’ll be my turn next.”
He nodded, so I continued. “He’s been the only…serious boyfriend. Since him, I frankly haven’t had the time or the desire to have a boyfriend. I’ve gone out with guys, but that’s it. Nothing serious.” I didn’t think I wanted to get into the details of all of that, so I was glad it was his last question.
“My turn. First, where did you get this hot car?”
He laughed. “My dad and I restored it. It’s a ’69 Camaro SS. It took us most of the last few years to perfect it. He’s a mechanic, and I didn’t grow up knowing anything at all about cars, so it was a great way for us to bond. I found out that I love restoring old cars, and driving them. And having hot girls in them.” He wiggled his eyebrows at me, and we both laughed. I loved that he was lightening up with me. Now it was time to get more serious.
“Okay, my next question is…if you could remember one thing about that night that we can’t remember, what would it be and why?”
Carter coughed. “Whoa,” he said. “You don’t mess around.” We hadn’t discussed ‘that night’ since right after we both realized we couldn’t remember. “I…Julia. Wow. I’m not sure how to answer that.”
“Truthfully,” I said. I loved making him uncomfortable.
“I wish I could remember touching you,” he said, the deepness of his voice tickling all through my body. “Everywhere.” It felt like he just had touched me, everywhere. I squirmed in my seat, almost wishing I hadn’t asked. Now I really wanted to attack him.          When I didn’t answer, he looked over at me. I smiled, reaching out and touching the scruff on his face, my favorite thing to do. “Wow is right,” I said quietly. “I wish I could remember that, too.” We looked at each other until the car behind us honked their horn.
